The Steward

(Oakeshott Type XIIIa)

Another great war sword of Type XIIIa, but of more slender proportions than our Duke. This is a less ornate, more austere battlefield equivalent to our Count XIIIa. The hilt of this sword was inspired by an original found hidden inside a wall in a medieval-era home in Linz, Austria, dated from the early to mid 14th century. The original sword is pictured as XIIIa.5 in Ewart Oakeshott's Records of the Medieval Sword. To make it even more of a classic XIIIa warsword, we have added a rivet block and lengthened the grip. The grip has eight planes and 2 risers in the middle as a support for the hand. Mounted in a hilt with a long grip like this, the blade becomes very agile and quick, yet capable of delivering devastating cutting blows.
